For Once and for For all..how many squares...

  

I think we can all agree there is just one 4x4

square in this image..

so our running total is..1...

Now on to 3x3 squares

I count 4 different 3x3 squares in this

if you see another..let me know..

running total is 5

By my count there are 9  2x2 squares

again, if you see more... let me know

Running total is 14

 

  I count 18  1x1 squares

   running total 32

and finally,  the 1/4 sized

squares..

there are 8 of those..

bringing our final total

to 

40!!

So can we PLEASE stop posting this on Facebook where I have to look at people who are arguing about whether its 24 or 25..
